Last month, Nissan unveiled its newest electric vehicle concept, the Ariya, at the Tokyo Motor Show. According to reports, the new Nissan electric vehicle concept could make it into production as early as late 2021.
The Ariya will be the first real electric crossover SUV in the industry. Electric batteries are heavy so manufacturers have stuck to either making small, light cars to counter the weight or big heavy vehicles that can handle the extra poundage. This is the first small SUV with purely electric capabilities, and small crossover SUVs are what Americans want most right now.
The new Nissan will carry a dual electric motor that will add extra power and performance as well as all-wheel drive capabilities. That means a sportier ride, being able to go 0 to 60 in five seconds, while being able to go over 300 miles on a single charge, more than the current Nissan EV, the Leaf. That would put the Ariya in direct competition with Tesla models when it comes to range.
The size is practical, with interior space similar to the Murano. Inside, you’ll find features like a 12.3 horizontal touch-screen display, smartphone recognition features, and Nissan’s ProPilot driver assistance system.
While the Ariya’s future is not yet set in stone, the Nissan Leaf has been a hit in the U.S. since its introduction at the beginning of the decade. Come see Nissan’s lineup today at James Ceranti Nissan.
