The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the most respected vehicle safety organization around, has been rolling out its 2021 crash test ratings, and five Nissan vehicles earned top crash test ratings.
The IIHS has two awards: Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+. A Top Safety Pick must earn a Good rating in six crash test categories and earn at least an Acceptable score for its headlights. To earn the Plus, the vehicle also has to earn an Advanced or Superior rating for its available front crash-prevention tech.
The Nissan Sentra compact sedan was named a Top Safety Pick, and four 2021 Nissan models have earned the designation of Top Safety Pick+, including the Altima mid-size sedan, the Maxima full-size sedan, and two mid-size SUVs, the Rogue and Murano.
The Rogue and Murano in particular had the highest possible ratings in every single category, from all six crashworthiness tests to headlights to front crash prevention. Both crossovers also received a G+ rating in the LATCH ease-of-use category, making them perfect options for young parents.
All five models come standard with Nissan Safety Shield® 360, a suite of driver-assist and active safety technologies. These include the Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection necessary to earn the Top Safety Pick+ award, as well as Rear Automatic Braking, Blind Spot Warning, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, among others.
