Nissan North America’s Canton assembly plant has brought thousands of jobs to Mississippi. Over the years, the automaker has also donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to anti-hunger efforts across the state — and now it’s doubling those contributions to fight growing food insecurity.
Nissan’s increased assistance to Mississippi Food Network and Our Daily Bread food banks will allow these organizations to serve an extra 200,000 meals to community members in need.
Since these partnerships began, Nissan has given more than $311,000 to fight hunger in Mississippi. Canton plant employees have also spent many hours volunteering at food banks around the state.
“There is a saying that every cloud has a silver lining, and if there is a silver lining to the COVID pandemic cloud that is overshadowing us, it is how graciously those who are able, like Nissan, have responded with their financial gifts to help support the increased demand for food this unprecedented health crisis is causing,” said Dr. Charles Beady, the CEO of Mississippi Food Network.
Nissan’s hunger-fighting efforts don’t stop at the state border. The automaker is also increasing its contributions to Second Harvest of Middle Tennessee, a food bank that serves thousands of our neighbors to the north.
Here at James Ceranti Nissan in Greenville, we’re proud of how our parent company has stepped up to increase its support for food banks — and ensure that Mississippi residents get the nutrition they need.
