The Yazoo National Wildlife Refuge was first established in 1936 and is the oldest national wildlife refuge in Mississippi. If you are looking for a great place to have some outdoor fun, Yazoo is a great place to go.
The Yazoo refuge is known throughout the southeast as one of the best locations for hunting. Many hunters plan their hunting vacations here for white-tailed deer, racoon, squirrel, and rabbit. The deer muzzleloader and archery hunts are among the most popular hunting options.
You can go hiking on any of the many paths through the refuge. Follow the quarter-mile boardwalk trail to the Holt Collier Boardwalk and Observation Tower for some spectacular views. Be aware that summertime temperatures can be extreme, so plan you visit early in the morning or later in the evening.
Yazoo is a great place to spend some time in nature and see native wildlife. A wide range of species live in the refuge including white-tailed deer, American alligators, and a variety of migratory bird species, especially ducks and geese.
The butterfly garden is a newer addition to the refuge and gives visitors a great place to view caterpillars and butterflies. In the summertime, you can usually spot hummingbirds flying from flower to flower too.
The Yazoo National Wildlife Refuge is a wonderful place to enjoy nature and the great sport of hunting. We at James Ceranti Nissan hope you enjoy your time at Yazoo!
